In comparison with other IGU commissions, the research focus of IGU-AGLE is highly innovative, aiming in part to develop a series of engineering measures that directly contribute to national strategy and local development. Consequently, it also encounters significant challenges. Since its establishment in 2016, under the guidance and support of IGU, we have actively engaged in various academic exchanges, conference organization, field investigations, and experimental work to establish a robust academic exchange platform for the scientific research of agricultural geography and land engineering.

To further advance the research demonstration work of ANSO-APRD, collate the latest scientific and technological achievements and practical models, and promote the high-quality development of "The Belt and Road", we hereby decide to organize the international academic conference of APRD in 2024. We sincerely welcome all experts to attend the meeting!

On 4-7 June, 2024, Prof. Yansui Liu was invited to attend the Beijing Normal University (BNU) Summer School. He delivered a keynote speech on “Global Rural Revitalization and Its Geographical Research.”

Every year, Professor Liu Yansui embarks on a journey that takes him to the heart of China's countryside. With each step he takes, Liu brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience, and dedication that have made him a driving force in China's poverty alleviation and rural revitalization efforts. 　　His method, a blend of meticulous research and concern for the well-being of rural residents, has yielded remarkable results. Through his scientific research and decision-making support, thousands of households have been lifted out of poverty, and rural communities have been revitalized.

On March 7, 2024, the Key Laboratory of Regional Sustainable Development Modeling of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (KLRSDM, CAS) hosted the "Distinguished Scholars Lecture Series 96" at the C602 conference room of the the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(IGSNRR, CAS). At the invitation of Director Yansui Liu, IGU President Michael Meadows visited the laboratory for academic exchange.

On January 4, 2024, the Major Program of National Natural Science Foundation "Cooperative Observation, Transformation Mechanism and Scenario Simulation of Rural Areal System" held its 2023 progress seminar at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGSNRR, CAS).

At the invitation of Nicole Oliphant, the Scientific Program Director of the American Geophysical Union, Researcher Yansui Liu, Jieyong Wang and Yurui Li attended the conference in San Francisco from December 11 to 15. On the morning of December 12, the team visited the poster exhibition at the Moscone Convention Center to engage in discussions and deep-dive conversations with young scholars on topics of mutual interest.

The International Geographical Union held a most successful International Workshop on Geography and Sustainability in the China National Convention Center (CNCC) and via Zoom from October 26th to 29th 2023. The workshop theme was “Geography and Sustainable Development: Challenges and Opportunities.” The workshop is one of the events of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (the United Nations General Assembly). The workshop attracted more than 900 participants from 35 countries. This workshop brought together researchers around the world to identify common challenges and discuss solutions to promote sustainable development through an integrated geographic perspective.

Director Liu Yansui ranked first (284th globally), Deputy Director Long Hualou ranked second (1748th globally), Associate Researcher Li Yuheng ranked fifth (19525th globally), and Researcher Li Yurui ranked tenth (42121st globally).

From September 19th to 22th, 2023, the symposium was hosted at the University of the Aegean, Lesvos, Greece. Prof. Yansui Liu was invited to attend the conference and delivered a keynote speech on "Characteristics of Population Flow and Rural Revitalization in China".

From June 5th to 9th, 2023, the 30th Annual Colloquium of the IGU Commission on the Sustainability of Rural Systems (IGU-CSRS) was held at the University of Lodz in Poland. Prof. Yansui Liu was invited to attend and delivered a keynote speech on "Sustainable Poverty Alleviation and Green Development in China's Underdeveloped Areas".

On February 25, 2023, the International Forum of Sustainable Poverty Reduction & Development and Rural Revitalization, jointly organized by the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the IGU Commission on Agricultural Geography and Land Engineering (IGU-AGLE), was held in Beijing. The event included expert workshops and forums on sustainable poverty reduction and development, and the launch of Big Data Platform for the International Sustainable Poverty Reduction and Development.

Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) announced the list of major programs funded by NSFC in 2022. Led by Prof. Liu Yansui, Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences, Fellow of The Geographical Society of China, and Chair of International Geographical Union Commission on Agricultural Geography and Land Engineering (IGU-AGLE), the major program of "Collaborative Observation, Transformation Mechanism and Scenario Simulation of Rural Areal System" (NSFC-RAS) jointly applied by the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences(IGSNRR,CAS), Beijing Normal University, Shenzhen University, Peking University, Wuhan University and other institutions was funded (Grant No.42293270; Execution period: January 2023 - December 2027)

A good natural environment contains infinite ecological resources and economic values , which can continuously provide rich and high-quality ecological products and stable and sustainable ecological services for human development .It is important to adhere to the holistic view of nature as a community of life between humans and nature , wth a green development concept that ‘ green water and green mountains are golden mountains ’ . In pursuing this concept .

From 2023, Science Bulletin, organised by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, forms a new Editorial Board. Professor Yan Sui Liu has been invited to serve as an editorial board member of the journal for a 5-year term (January 2023-December 2027).

From July 27th to August 17th, 2022, the 20-day scientific expedition was successfully completed, which involved three provinces of China, namely Shaanxi, Shanxi and Henan, and included more than 30 counties and cities.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, by fully playing the advantages of the geographic specialty and GIS technology, Pr. Yansui Liu and his group from the IGSNRR, CAS rapidly developed “COVID-19 Dynamic Monitoring System for National Prevention”, It provided an important reference for the technical support and scientific decisionmaking of global and regional epidemic prevention.
