Recently, Prof. Hualou Long, a researcher at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the Commission on the Sustainability of Rural Systems (CSRS) of the International Geographical Union (IGU).
The Commission on the Sustainability of Rural Systems (CSRS) was approved by the IGU Commission meeting in The Hague in August 1996, and is the predecessor of the Study Group on the Sustainability of Rural Systems (SGRS), which operated during the 1992-1996 period. The mission of the IGU Commission on Sustainability of Rural Systems is to develop and apply an internationally comparable research programme on sustainability of rural systems in different regions of the world, and the CSRS holds its annual meetings in different countries each year.During the period 1996-2008, researcher Mr. She Zhixiang of the Nanjing Institute of Geography and Lake Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NIGLR, CAS), and Prof. Cai Yunlong of Peking University were elected to the Executive Committee of the CSRS.
