Training for Government Officials from Belt and Road Countries by Yuheng Li

release date: 2022-12-01

From November 1 to 21, 2022, a training program titled "Sharing China's Development Experience under the Belt and Road Initiative" was held in Beijing, organized by the Ministry of Commerce and hosted by the China International Economic Consulting Co., Ltd. The program aimed to facilitate international cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and share China's development experiences since the reform and opening-up.

In response to the training needs, Associate Researcher Li Yuheng from the Agricultural Geography and Rural Development Research Office was invited to participate in this training task. He delivered detailed presentations on the themes of poverty alleviation and rural development, covering the evolution of global poverty, China's poverty alleviation journey, practical experiences, and typical models. He also proposed policy recommendations and measures for poverty alleviation and development in Africa and Pacific Island countries. Emphasizing the increasing risks of global uncertainty, he highlighted the need for the international community to focus on the poverty alleviation goals of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, actively engage in poverty reduction cooperation, enhance resilience against poverty, and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

During the discussion, Ms. Lumbo Mwimanzi from the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries of Zambia remarked that, as a government official from one of the world's least developed countries, the lectures helped her gain a deeper understanding of poverty alleviation from the perspective of China's practices. She expressed hope for strengthened cooperation and knowledge sharing between Zambia and China in the area of poverty reduction.

This training program was conducted online, with English as the working language. A total of 30 participants from 11 countries in Africa and the Pacific, including Ethiopia and Fiji, attended, representing various government departments such as development, agriculture, infrastructure, and education.
