International workshop on geography and sustainability 2023

 The International Geographical Union held a most successful International Workshop on Geography and Sustainability in the China National Convention Center (CNCC) and via Zoom from October 26th to 29th 2023. The workshop theme was “Geography and Sustainable Development: Challenges and Opportunities.” The workshop is one of the events of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (the United Nations General Assembly). The workshop attracted more than 900 participants from 35 countries. This workshop brought together researchers around the world to identify common challenges and discuss solutions to promote sustainable development through an integrated geographic perspective.

Prof. Yansui Liu was invited to attend and delivered a keynote speech on “Research on Human-Earth System Detection Based on Multisource Data.” The workshop was co-organized by the Faculty of Geographical Science at Beijing Normal University and the IGU Commission on Geography for Future Earth: Coupled Human-Earth Systems for Sustainability, collaborating with the IGU Commissions on Agricultural Geography and Land Engineering, Hazard and Risk, Land Use and Land Cover Change, Sustainability of Rural Systems, and Land Degradation and Desertification.
