On the noon of August 27, 2024, the IGU-AGLE Committee Meeting was successfully held in Dublin, Ireland. The meeting was chaired by Professor Yansui Liu, Chair of IGU-ALGE, and Executive leader and Vice-President of IGU Holly was invited to attend. This meeting was held both in person and online. Yansui Liu, Guy Robinson, Holly Barcus, and assistant Feng Weilun attended the meeting in person. Yuheng Li, Secretary General of IGU-AGLE, as well as newly elected members Alexey Naumov, Thi Phuoc Lai Nguyen, Natalia Dehtiar, Kumar Nitin, and Santos Daniel Chicas attended the meeting online.

The 35th International Geographical Congress (IGC2024) was held with great pomp in Dublin, the capital of Ireland, under the theme “Celebrating a World of Difference.” This prestigious gathering saw participation from over 2,600 experts and scholars from more than 100 countries, comprising various activities such as IGU General Assemblies, exhibitions, and field excursions. During the congress, Prof. Liu Yansui actively engaged in academic discussions with both domestic and international colleagues, providing a detailed overview of the research center's developmental positioning, research areas, supporting platforms, and significant projects undertaken in recent years. These exchanges explored potential collaborative efforts in areas such as conference organization, platform construction, talent development, achievement publication, and field investigations.

In comparison with other IGU commissions, the research focus of IGU-AGLE is highly innovative, aiming in part to develop a series of engineering measures that directly contribute to national strategy and local development. Consequently, it also encounters significant challenges. Since its establishment in 2016, under the guidance and support of IGU, we have actively engaged in various academic exchanges, conference organization, field investigations, and experimental work to establish a robust academic exchange platform for the scientific research of agricultural geography and land engineering.

To further advance the research demonstration work of ANSO-APRD, collate the latest scientific and technological achievements and practical models, and promote the high-quality development of "The Belt and Road", we hereby decide to organize the international academic conference of APRD in 2024. We sincerely welcome all experts to attend the meeting!

Every year, Professor Liu Yansui embarks on a journey that takes him to the heart of China's countryside. With each step he takes, Liu brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience, and dedication that have made him a driving force in China's poverty alleviation and rural revitalization efforts. 　　His method, a blend of meticulous research and concern for the well-being of rural residents, has yielded remarkable results. Through his scientific research and decision-making support, thousands of households have been lifted out of poverty, and rural communities have been revitalized.

On March 7, 2024, the Key Laboratory of Regional Sustainable Development Modeling of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (KLRSDM, CAS) hosted the "Distinguished Scholars Lecture Series 96" at the C602 conference room of the the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(IGSNRR, CAS). At the invitation of Director Yansui Liu, IGU President Michael Meadows visited the laboratory for academic exchange. Academician Michael Meadows is primarily engaged in scientific research in the fields of environmental evolution, the Anthropocene environment, human-environment relationships, and sustainable development.

The IGU Commission on Agricultural Geography and Land Engineering (IGU-AGLE) set up a sub-forum on "Sustainable Land Use and Agricultural Development under Global Uncertainties". We sincerely invite geographers around the world to participate in the "Sustainable Land Use and Agricultural Development under Global Uncertainties" sub-forum under the C02 Forum to share and exchange scientific research results.
