Call for Abstracts: IGC 2024 Sub-forum of IGU-AGLE

The 35th International Geographical Congress (IGC) will be held in Ireland in August 2024. The theme of the congress is “Celebrating a World of Difference”. The IGU Commission on Agricultural Geography and Land Engineering (IGU-AGLE) set up a sub-forum on "Sustainable Land Use and Agricultural Development under Global Uncertainties". We sincerely invite geographers around the world to participate in the "Sustainable Land Use and Agricultural Development under Global Uncertainties" sub-forum under the C02 Forum to share and exchange scientific research results.

The IGU-AGLE commission was officially established on December 29, 2016. Professor Yansui Liu, a distinguished researcher at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, assumed the inaugural chairman. Eminent scholars from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Sweden, Thailand, Pakistan, and other nations served as deputy chairs and commission members.

——  Forum Topic  ——

The world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century. Under the global changes and COVID-19pandemic, global uncertainty is increasing, global issues such as land degradation, energy and food security, and climate change have further intensified. In this context, global land use and agricultural development are facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities, and the world's agriculture is constantly faced with complex "agricultural, land and rural diseases". On the other hand, the scientific application of modern science and technology in agriculture has led to dramatic changes in their development patterns, and land consolidation have been carried out around the world, especially in developing countries.

With human-earth system science as the theoretical foundation and land engineering as a key tool, there is a challenge to deepen scientific research on sustainable land use and agricultural development to meet the 2030 global sustainable development goals. Therefore, there is an urgent need for scientific recognition of the new human-earth and urban-rural relations in the post-epidemic era, as well as a new concept of global and regional system governance and a new model of sustainable development.

The forum aims to explore experiences and exchange research results on land consolidation, poverty reduction, agricultural models, and rehabilitation at the global and local levels, to provide recommendations for decision making on sustainable land use and agricultural development. It will include research papers and reports related to the conference topics, and will illustrate research by members of one of the youngest IGU commissions (founded in 2016).

The forum welcomes submissions on various topics, including but not limited to:

Modern human-earth relations and human-earth system science

Land consolidation engineering and sustainable land utilization

Agricultural geographic engineering and transformative development strategies

Constructing rural living environment & beautiful-harmonious countryside

Rural areal system transformation processes and mechanisms

Rural revitalization scenario simulation and path exploration

Rural geographic engineering and rural development models
